- Discount amount = Original price ร (Discount % รท 100). Then: Sale price = Original price โ Discount amount. Example: A $120 item at 25% off โ Discount = $120 ร 0.25 = $30 โ Sale price = $120 โ $30 = $90.
- If you know the sale price and discount percentage: Original price = Sale price รท (1 โ Discount%/100). Example: You paid $75 after a 40% discount โ Original = $75 รท 0.60 = $125.
- Discount % = ((Original price โ Sale price) รท Original price) ร 100. Example: Item was $200, now $150 โ Discount % = (($200 โ $150) รท $200) ร 100 = 25% off.
- Double discounts (stacked) are multiplicative, not additive. A 20% off then 10% off extra = NOT 30% off. It equals: 1 โ (0.80 ร 0.90) = 1 โ 0.72 = 28% total discount. Always apply the first discount, then apply the second to the reduced price.
- To find sale price:
=A1*(1-B1/100)where A1 = original price, B1 = discount %. To find discount amount:=A1*B1/100. - BOGO 50% off on 2 items of equal price = effectively 25% off per item. BOGO free on 2 items = 50% off the total. To compare: (Discount savings รท Total regular price) ร 100 = true discount percentage.
